Alison Cameron and Graham Ross organised the first Indoor Driving session at Otaki Racecourse in mid-June, fluking the one fine day in weeks. There was a fair turnout of all sorts from horses through all sizes of ponies to donkeys and a mule.

The day was very relaxed and the drivers had a good time getting used to the smaller dressage arena, the tight cone course and the chance to drive the hazards twice - interesting that the times showed little variation the second time.

It may happen, I suppose, that things will get more intense and competitive as time goes on and we get the hang of this; but as it turned out at Otaki, no one felt threatened, people learned a lot, there was lots of time for watching other people and socialising. I think we all left thinking that we'd had a good day's driving and all the work from the organisers had been worthwhile. I don't mind if it never gets too competitive!
